Why Brainerd License Office? Brainerd License Office is an independently run operation, it is not run by the state. By using this local Deputy Registrar office, you in turn keep a portion of your money in your community. This in turn keeps our community strong! 2. I did not receive my renewal notice, what do I do? Bring in your drivers license or ID along with vehicle plate number or vin, make sure you also have your current insurance information. We will then be able sell you your tabs & print your registration card. 3. Can someone else purchase my tabs for me? MOTOR VEHICLE: If registration is being purchased by someone other than the registered owner, you must have one of the following: The current renewal notice Or the same last name & the same address on your driver’s license as the registered owners record. Or a signed & dated authorization detailing your name & theirs, vehicle description (plate number, etc) allowing them to purchase your tabs. CLICK HERE for Authorization Form. We also will need the current insurance information DNR: If registration is being purchased by someone other than the registered owner, you must have one of the following: The current renewal notice Or a signed permission slip from the registered owner along with a copy of the registered owners driver’s license or ID Or a NOTARIZED permission slip. Click HERE for permission slip. 4. How can I process transactions by mail or after hours? We also have a 24 hour drop box available near our front door for your convenience. You may also mail transactions to: 623 NW 4th St, Brainerd MN 56401 5. Do I have until the 10th of the month to purchase my tabs? No, you have until the last day of the expiring month to purchase your tabs. You then have until the 10th of the following month to display them. 6. I’m in a hurry to get my title, what can I do? Expedited titles are available for an extra $20, some restrictions apply. If you are requesting a duplicate title, we are now able print duplicate motor vehicle titles in our office in most cases. 7. My Driver’s License has expired, what should I do? As of now, you cannot legally drive. You do have up to 1 year to renew your license before you have to retest. As long as it has not been expired for over a year, you can renew at our office as usual (an expired license cannot be used as documentation for a Real or EDL application). 8. How do I check the status of my Driver’s License? You check check the status of your driver’s license at drive.mn.gov 9. What forms of payment to you accept? We accept credit & debit cards, however there is an additional 2.15% convenience fee will be charged for each transaction. This fee is charged by the credit card service provider. This office does not receive any of these convenience fees. Visa, MasterCard, Discover & American Express are accepted. We accept Cash and checks with proper ID (a valid drivers license or state ID & phone number). Any returned check is subject to a $30 fee & criminal charges. 10. How do I take my driver’s license test? You must contact an exam station thru St. Paul at 651-201-7900 (there are no local numbers) or go to drive.mn.gov The Brainerd Exam Station is Temporarily Closed. 11. Can I advertise at your business? Yes. We have 2 large screen TVs to display your advertisements. We have a large customer base. OFFICE HOURS: Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm excluding all major holidays - as listed below. For the calendar year of 2024 we are closed: Monday, September 2 - Labor Day Monday, November 11 - Veterans Day Thursday & Friday, November 28 & 29 - Thanksgiving Wednesday, December 25 (Tuesday, December 24 TBD) - Christmas 14. Forms won’t open, why? First, make sure you have a PDF reader. If not, you can download Adobe Reader (to the right). 15. I need to know how much I paid last year on my tabs for taxes, how can I find out? Unfortunately, we are unable to give you this information due to data privacy laws. The amount you paid is listed on your registration card that comes with your tabs each year. You can also go to drive.mn.gov to look up this information. The registered owner can request a “vehicle record request” at our office for a charge of $9.00. 16. How can I apply for a job here? We keep all resumes on file for up to 6 months. Please submit a resume via e-mail or hardmail. 17. Are we pet friendly? Unfortunately no, we are not pet friendly even tho we do have resident dogs behind the counter. Please leave your fur-kids at home while coming to our office. 18. Meet our greeters... Along with competent & highly qualified staff, our office includes our greeters Sully & Decca. “Sullivan”, also called “Sully” (CH Broadway’s Viking King CGC SPOT ORT NSA1x2 NW2 NW3I NW3E SWA TKA RA THDN ATD VBN VSWB TTCA-VCD) is a 6 year old Tibetan Terrier. He received his Championship at the age of 10 months & is now pursuing Obedience & Nosework. As you can see with his many titles (32 titles) on his name, Sully is a very active boy in numerous sports. We also have a 5 year old English Setter “Decca” (Decoverly’s Decca Records CGC TKN RN ORT NSA1x2 ATD). Both Decca & Sully are certified therapy dogs as well. Be sure to say hello to Sully & Decca while you visit our office. Sorry, Decca & Sully are the only animals allowed in this office.
